Our Story

Started With a Map.
Built on a Mountain.

“Stay Tiny, Live Big.”

— The Sojourn Promise
01

The Spark

Sojourn didn't start with a business plan. It started with a week in Jackson Hole that our founder, Anjan, nearly skipped. A serial entrepreneur who'd spent his career in Silicon Valley — meetings, cross-country flights, a life largely lived behind a screen — he'd won the trip at a charity auction and almost let it expire. He finally went. And somewhere between biking across the Teton Range and rolling around in the snow with his kids, something clicked. "This is a part of life I was totally missing."

The Search

The problem? Jackson Hole was too far for a spontaneous weekend. Anjan is, by his own admission, a spur-of-the-moment guy. He opened a map and asked a simple question: where's the closest mountain to Florida? The Smoky Mountains came up. Within a week, he was in Tennessee — a state he'd never visited, where he knew nobody. Before long, he'd bought his first cabins.

The Build

What started as a personal getaway quickly became something bigger. A guy who, by his own description, can't change a light bulb, learned to pour concrete, pull permits, and eventually became his own foreman. When cabin prices went through the roof, he bought land and started building. When a friend mentioned tiny homes — fully enclosed, year-round, and far simpler to build than traditional cabins — he jumped in again, not entirely sure what he was getting into. That's been the pattern from the start.

The Result

Today, Sojourn is a family-run resort near Pigeon Forge — built around the same idea that started everything: the best Smoky Mountain trips aren't the ones you plan for six months. They're the ones you decide on a Tuesday and remember for years. We built this place to make that easy.

Dogs Welcome Here

Built for Every Member
of Your Family.

Anjan, who founded Sojourn, has three dogs — Spikey, Ruby, and Noody. So when it came time to design this place, making it genuinely pet-friendly wasn't a policy decision — it was personal. We built the grounds with your four-legged travel companions in mind: open space to roam, outdoor areas to explore together, and none of the "sorry, no pets" signs that eliminate half your lodging options before you've even started looking. Bring them along. They'll love it here.

We also partner with the Sevier Animal Care Center — because we believe the Smoky Mountains should be a welcoming place for animals too. A portion of every stay goes toward supporting their work finding forever homes for dogs in need. When you book with Sojourn, you're not just getting a great place to stay. You're helping make sure other animals get one too.
