A Look at the Cave Beneath Sojourn Lodging

July 31, 2025

Sojourn Lodging is a new tiny home property in Sevierville, Tennessee, created for travelers looking for a simple and comfortable way to experience the Smoky Mountains. Our location makes it easy to visit popular destinations like Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which are all just a short drive away. Each tiny home is thoughtfully designed with a kitchenette, a private bathroom, and the essentials you need for a relaxing stay. Whether you’re visiting for a weekend trip or a longer vacation, Sojourn Lodging serves as a convenient home base close to the area’s most well-known attractions.

But what makes our property stand out is something most people would never expect. Beneath the land where our tiny homes sit is a natural cave system that very few people know about. This underground network stretches for hundreds of feet and features a variety of spaces, from narrow, quiet corridors to expansive chambers where the ceilings soar more than 30 feet overhead. In some sections, small underground streams flow through the stone floors and feed into clear pools where tiny fish swim. Other areas are dry and open, with rock floors that have been shaped and smoothed by years of underground water movement.

This cave isn’t something you can see from the surface, and it’s easy to overlook unless you know it’s there. But once you step inside, it’s clear how unique it is. Each space feels a little different—some long and tunnel-like, others wide and echoing—and the combination of underground streams, mineral formations, and untouched stone gives it a sense of quiet beauty that’s hard to put into words.

Inside the Cave Beneath Sojourn Lodging

Once inside the cave, the layout changes from one area to the next. The entrance is narrow, with walls only a few feet apart and a ceiling low enough that you would need to crouch. It’s a quiet, enclosed space where every step echoes softly. As you move deeper underground, the spaces begin to open up into larger chambers. One of the widest stretches is more than 100 feet long, and the ceilings in some rooms rise over 30 feet high, making the change in scale feel dramatic.

Each chamber has its own distinct features. Some are long and tunnel-like, while others open into expansive spaces with smooth stone floors shaped by years of water flow. In certain sections, shallow underground streams cut through the floor and feed into clear pools where small fish swim. Other areas are completely dry, with mineral deposits lining the walls and ceilings. When light catches these formations, they glint and shimmer, showing layers of stone that have built up slowly over time. The combination of narrow passages and wide open rooms gives the cave a sense of depth and variety that is rarely seen so close to the surface.

A Feature That Sets the Property Apart

Standing on the property, you’d never guess what’s beneath your feet. The land feels calm and open, with mountain views all around and the tiny homes tucked neatly into place. But underground, the cave stretches quietly for hundreds of feet, hidden from anyone who doesn’t know it’s there.

The scale of it is striking. Narrow corridors wind through the rock before opening into tall, echoing chambers where the ceilings rise more than 30 feet overhead. Clear streams run along the cave floor in some areas, cutting paths through the stone and feeding pools where small fish swim. Other sections are dry and still, their walls covered in mineral deposits and flowstone formations that have been building up for centuries. Light catches the edges of these formations, glinting off layers of stone that shift in color from pale gray to deep, earthy browns.

Knowing this cave exists beneath Sojourn Lodging adds another layer to the property’s setting. It’s a reminder that the Smoky Mountains are full of hidden places and natural features, many of which can’t be seen from the road or trail. Guests who want to experience a cave firsthand often visit Forbidden Caverns nearby, one of Sevierville’s most popular attractions. But the knowledge that a lesser-known cave runs quietly beneath the property makes Sojourn Lodging feel connected to the land in a way few places can match.

Deeper Inside the Cave

The cave beneath Sojourn Lodging is made up of several connected chambers that together stretch for hundreds of feet. The entrance is one of the smallest areas. It’s about 4 feet wide and 4 to 5 feet high, which means you would need to crouch to get through. Once inside, the spaces start to open up. One of the larger rooms is about 100 feet long with ceilings that rise over 30 feet high.

Some sections of the cave are long and narrow, while others are wide and open. One side of the cave, the left-hand side, has a shallow stream that flows through several areas and feeds into clear pools. Small fish can be seen swimming in these pools. The right-hand side, or northern wall, is mostly dry.

The rock formations inside the cave change from one area to the next. In some places, there are bright white flowstone deposits with golden streaks running through them. In other spots, the ceilings have small silver-colored mineral flecks that catch the light. The walls and floors show smooth layers of stone shaped by water over time, changing in color from light gray to deep brown.

The largest chamber in the cave is about 160 feet long. Along one wall is a natural stone ledge that is around four feet high and wide enough to stand on. Near the exit, moss grows along the stone, showing that the opening is close by.

The cave beneath Sojourn Lodging is made up of several connected chambers and passageways that together run for hundreds of feet. Some areas are wide and open, while others are much narrower and lower, giving the cave a mix of different spaces as you move through it.
